this past weekend, i read abunch of comics, including:

  • JSA #41: $ D
while this title is fun in a silver age kind of way, i find i just don't care enough. this series is well-collected in trades, so i can wait.
  • Sojourn #16: $ K
this was a great issue on a title that was lagging for me a bit. the art is just so damn beautiful, and some key relationships are starting to fall into place. that said, this is the only crossgen book i'm keeping monthly.
  • Daredevil #38: $ K
a really interesting issue dealing with matt on a superhero defense case, having been outed. how's it gonna play out? can't wait.
  • New X-men #133: $ K
phoenix rising baby. gotta love the return of the phoenix. gotta. love. it.
  • Spider-man Black Cat #3: $ K
after lamenting the lateness of this book, i'm glad to see it in print. the dodsons are pretty great when it comes to cheesecake art, and smith's grown-up spidey is really interesting. the villain is creepy too. a good read. faster please.
  • Thor #54-55: $ K
ok, i had read over at the fourth rail that thor was on a new arc that dealt with the religious aspect of the title, namely the fact that these guys are GODS. well, i was sufficiently piqued, and happily satisfied by these issues. so much so i added the title to the pull list. a lot of really interesting religious questions are raised.
  • Ultimate Spider-man #29: $ K BoW
ok. i admit i am overtired, overworked, and underpaid. i read the last panel and started to cry. i then reread the last four pages over and over again full of disbelief. this is the best superhero comic on the market. bar-none.
  • Cla$$war #3: $ K
this british import is about a superteam sick and tired of working for a distasteful american administration and doing something about it. up my alley. geopolitics at work. but it's written by brits so it never rings true. the art is great (too bad he's leaving after this issue), and i like the look of the book. enough to keep it.

also caught up on some exiles. i had a crapper of a time finding issues 12-13, and i had read the whole thing (in trade) up to there, and was waiting to read the rest till i read those, and finally did, and i'm glad i get this series monthly. these stories, while rarely self-contained, still cry out to be read in a monthly format. there's somethiong about the premise of a team of hero/misfits who find themselves in parallel universes at every turn that asks for monthly magazine collection. that's all i have to say about that.
